How To Find Cheap Hotels in New York City
Here are some ideas on how to find a cheap hotel in New York City.
- Use HotelsCombined – My new favorite for finding cheap hotels.
- Use Airbnb – Not truly for hotels (you’re renting out someone’s apartment or a room in their house) but it’s definitely one of the cheaper ways to find a place to stay in the city.
- Be flexible on location – Brooklyn, New Jersey, and Queens can be good options. New York is blessed with great subway connections into Manhattan so staying outside the city isn’t a huge hassle.
- January, February, and March are the least busy (and expensive). September, October and Christmas time are the most expensive. There’s always something going on in New York but some weeks are worse than others. Memorial Day Weekend, the week of the 4th of July, Labor Day Weekend, the Macy’s Parade weekend, and the week before Christmas are all very busy times.
- Look into B&Bs (but book at least a few weeks in advance) – Manhattan Getaways and Affordable New York City is good site for booking bed and breakfasts. Also check.
- Book a Package Deal – I’m not big on package deals for most holiday destinations but New York is different (Who cares what hotel you stay in? – the city is the destination and you tend not to spend a lot of time at your hotel anyway.)
- Visit during a weekend – New York is a huge business destination and on weekends those business people go home – and leave their hotel rooms empty. Weekends are a great time to get a good deal.
